It is very alarming fact that the incidence of fire usually happens during dry season. It could be because of the too much heat making everything go wrong or even accidents brought about by the overly playful kids that were left unguarded. Household fire is very scary but it is preventable by observing the basic fire safety tips.
- Be careful with candles, match, incense sticks. Don't leave anything still burning when you leave home or even when your about to go to sleep at night. Store them in a high place so your children won't mistake them for toys.
- Keep all heating and drying materials in a safe place. Hair dryers, curling irons and other heating materials can cause enough heat to start a fire if not properly taken care of. Instruct your kids not to use it without the guidance of the adult.
- Don't leave food unattended while cooking. There are instances that we are very forgetful especially if we are doing a lot of things. If you leave the kitchen, make sure to turn off the stove and also the gas tank.
- Use caution with electrical appliances. Be aware of the overused or overloading electrical outlets. Plug only appliances one at a time into an outlet to avoid overloading. Never stand in or near water when using electrical appliances. Make sure to unplug and turn off all appliances before you leave the house.
- Have a readily accessible fire extinguisher. It is the most effective way to put out fires. Keep one near your kitchen and make sure you know how to use it properly.
- Install smoke detectors and fire alarms. Install one in the kitchen, bedrooms, dining, living rooms and even in the garage. Test it monthly to make sure it's still working properly.
